"Why are wedding photographers so expensive?" One of the most asked questions on google about wedding photography. Well, I'm here to explain why wedding photography is 'expensive' and why it is worth the expense it is paid. Some people tend to say all photographer's do is press a button, so why does it cost so much? Well, there is a lot more to it than that. You are paying a wedding photographer for their years of learning and experience, the hours spent shooting, the hours of work and skill put into editing each individual image that they capture on your wedding day, which could be thousands of images and countless hours of editing. A photographer is an investment into your wedding day to produce physical memories of the date.
First we'll start off with the basics of the camera. The camera is a wonderful tool, not just something used to press a button. Years of learning is needed to understand how to fully use a camera to it's full potential, there a multiple modes for different scenarios, there are different shutter speeds-which is how fast a photo is taken, different aperture levels-which is how wide the shutter opens for an image and how much light is let in and iso, the sensitivity to light that the camera has; each thing going hand in hand with each other so that a photo is captured perfectly, before any editing even begins. There's also a handful of other things that go into this, such as white balance-how warm or cool the look of the image is, flash and off camera flash-which is another thing to learn in itself, along with poses and directions and prompts and all this other stuff that goes into making the photo and yourself look the best it possibly can and one minor change could give an image a total different outlook. Not to mention, the price of all this camera equipment all adds up too, along with insurance and other bills on top of that, which need to be paid by us.
Next we'll look at editing; again, editing software is expensive and it's continuous payments each month for this software, which we have to keep paying, again to have your images look the best that they can. And then the hours and hours of learning these different editing software, which are frequently updating and leading us to have to spend more time relearning these different things to further improve the look of your images. And then the time spent editing after all the photos have been taken and uploaded and imported and all the sorting is done, we spend hours editing. Some weddings can sometimes take up to 12 weeks for the photos to be delivered to you because we're working on each and every little thing within the different images to give them the best look possible.
Finally, wedding photographer's are there to provide moments that you can look back on and have the memories that can last a lifetime. We try to capture the best and most memorable moments throughout your wedding day to ensure that you have something to look back on and cherish in years to come. And yes, other guests could take photos on their phones, which may show some good moments but mobile photography is no comparison to what can be achieved with a camera and years of experience. So, the next time you question a photographer's price, or any services, take in mind everything that they may have to work up to this point. Or, just ask them why the price is what it is and I'm sure the majority of people will be happy to discuss why their prices are priced how they are. Thank you for reading x
