Not the most traditional or emotional wedding that I've seen, with the groom seeing the bride in her dress before the wedding ceremony even began but each to their own, I'm just there to shoot the day and capture the best moments, even if there's no reaction to first seeing one another. But my first 'stranger' wedding, meaning the first couple wedding that I shot that wasn't family or friends, who I hadn't met before getting in touch about their wedding. This was such a big moment to me and I prepared the best that I could and did so early to the wedding because I was so excited to finally be shooting a wedding for someone who hadn't been through family or friends.
The couple were lovely and even though there wasn't much raw emotion, which I love to capture, you could still see the love between these two and they made everyone, including myself as the photographer feel so welcome to be there. The family of the groom even gave me a lift back to the reception venue from the ceremony, as it was a 20 minute drive and it would have cost me in bus fare and time to get there, which was very generous of them as I didn't drive at that time. The groom also offered to buy me a drink as I was in the process of ordering my own, a double vodka with smirnoff ice to be exact so basically vodka with more watered down vodka; no idea why on earth I used to drink that but I only had the one so I was still standing by the time I went home.
Going home was probably the worst part. Other than leaving the welcome company of the couple, I had to get 2 different buses home, in the dark, not really knowing where to go. And the worst part is that I went home at only 7 o'clock, the struggles of winter nights eh.
